THE INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL STUDENTS DEVELOP A COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE IN ENGLISH – THE INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE OF BUSINESS
JUFE’s International School has an objective to create tomorrow’s business leaders. One critical element in achieving this goal is to have English as the main language of instruction so that our students will be equally at home conducting business around the world and in China. In order to develop students’ English capabilities, fifty-six percent of the language courses are taught by native English speakers. Over ninety-three percent of freshmen pass the Comprehensive English Test Level 4 (CET4) and over seventy percent pass the Comprehensive English Test Level 6 (CET6) as well in 2013. The pass rate of non-international school students is less than forty percent for CET4 and CET6 at JUFE.
The English knowledge of the International School students is not just apparent in language classes. Almost all major courses are taught in English ensuring that students learn the specialized English language specific to their chosen major of Accounting, Finance, or International Business in additional to general English communication skills. Furthermore, over forty percent of major courses are taught by scholars and professors invited from overseas universities. They teach the students the latest global business theories and practices, and expose them to the education system in the west. Many students will choose to pursue an advanced degree abroad after graduating from JUFE.
The English and business foundation prepares students well for competing in the job market upon graduation. Over ninety-two percent of the International School’s students find immediate employment compared with about ninety percent in JUFE overall and only seventy-five percent nationwide in 2013.Forty-five percent of the International School’s alumni are currently taking rewarding positions in financial institutions or private businesses, including over twenty percent at Fortune 500 companies. Others are employed in various jobs at critical government agencies and institutions such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Chinese Customs Office, the Department of Aerospace, and the People’s Bank of China.
